If you are visiting London and are looking to have a wild night out then the top of your list for go to clubs should be club Tonteria. Club Tonteria is a subterranean, classy, intimate Mexican-themed bar located underneath Sloane Square, Belgravia, London. The high-end exclusive lounge was first opened in 2012 by Guy Pelly. To make sure you have a good time when you are out you have to ensure you have something in your belly.
Club Tonteria boasts of its modern and fresh twist to its Mexican and South American street food. From 9 pm to around 10:30 pm, they serve bite-sized tapas that are super tasty and finger-licking good. The ambiance reflects the Mexican culture of good music, cordiality and dynamic sceneries. The dishes are paired with a wide variety of Tequilas, famous frozen margaritas and sharing cocktails. The sharing cocktails are inspired by Mexico’s lifestyle and heritage and they include: “the tequila slammer”, “the lucky luchador”. All these are great for sharing with friends and are delivered to you by a toy train located on the ceiling of the club.
Whether you are celebrating a special occasion or simply catching up with a friend, you definitely have to try out the Tapas. The most popular music played at the club is hip hop and RnB. To access the club one must be 18 years old and above. You must also have a valid ID that could be in form of a valid driving license, passport or international identity card, in order for you to enter. Like any other exclusive VIP club, a dress code is strict and they emphasize on elegance and sophistication, to make sure that the clubs character is reflected. The ladies should wear sexy dresses and heels which are a must for admission. If you are more reserved than think of nice fancy shorts. Hair and make-up is also a must but in moderation and one must look good.
Gentlemen are required to look smart and elegant so you can throw on a nice shirt with a pair of good trousers and closed shoes. The sharper you look the better. Do not attempt to wear shorts or any form of sportswear as you will not be allowed in. Club Tonteria opens on Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from 10 pm to around 3 am. Club Tonteria has a capacity to hold around 180 people. The best way to truly enjoy the clubs experience is by making a night spot reservation to be on the guest list for you and your friends a day before to avoid tables being “sold out” due to the limited amount of tables. From 10 pm the resident DJ turns up the music and Tonteria ceases to be a relaxed place and now turns into an energetic club.
As from 11 pm, incredible masked male and female dancers take to the stage to entertain you until the early hours of the morning. They also have wrestlers fighting around you for entertainment purposes. In 2017, they revamped the club to create a curtained-off VIP area to consist of an enclosed glass-front where snake dancers give private shows and a performing artist who staples objects to her body. A “Day of the Dead “skull-themed DJ booth on the main club floor was also added.
To further add to the unique nature of the club they have amazing masked ladies and muscled boys providing quick and satisfactory table services. Club Tonteria rose to fame by being a favorite spot for young royals who partied there including Prince William, Prince Harry, and Princess Eugenie. Pippa Middleton and Cressida Bonas (Harry's ex-girlfriend) have also been spotted in the club. Huge celebrity personalities such as Leonardo Di Caprio, Justin Bieber, Tom Hardy, and Jessie J have also partied there.
The entrance fee stands at £20. Club Tonteria offers a wide variety of drinks to chose from, with prices ranging from £10 for the cheapest tequila shot to £27,000 for a Louis Roederer Cristal bottle of champagne.
